GLR engages communities and local leaders ahead of upcoming tree planting campaign

From 8–10 September 2026, Green For Life Rwanda (GLR) conducted a three-day field mission in Mushonyi Sector, bringing together community members, project staff, and local leaders from village, cell, sector, and district levels to strengthen coordination and preparedness for the upcoming tree-planting season.

The meetings focused on reviewing progress and discussing practical preparations for the tree-planting activities scheduled for October 2026. Participants exchanged ideas on how to ensure successful implementation of the restoration initiative and emphasized the importance of collective action in achieving long-term environmental and livelihood benefits.

During the discussions, GLR highlighted the critical role of trees in restoring degraded landscapes, conserving biodiversity, improving soil fertility, protecting water resources, and enhancing climate resilience. Community members and local leaders were also reminded of the expected social and economic benefits of the project, including improved livelihoods, environmental sustainability, and stronger ecosystem services for future generations.

The field mission further served as a platform to reinforce commitments among all stakeholders regarding seedling management, planting techniques, and post-planting maintenance. Special attention was given to strategies for protecting young trees, increasing survival rates, and ensuring community ownership of the restoration efforts.

GLR commended the active participation and commitment demonstrated by community members and local authorities throughout the meetings. The organization remains committed to working closely with local communities and partners to promote sustainable landscape restoration and contribute to a greener, more resilient Rwanda. As preparations continue, stakeholders expressed confidence that the upcoming tree-planting campaign will significantly contribute to environmental restoration, biodiversity conservation, and improved livelihoods across Mushonyi and surrounding communities.
